   About Us

Abhiyan, The e cell of IIM Lucknow, is one of the most active ecells amongst all the Bschool campuses in India. It has been organizing National Bplan Competitions year after year with great success. This October, IIM Lucknow played  host to India’s finest entrepreneurs, present and future. Nirvaan, the Annual B Plan contest at IIM Lucknow, conducted by Abhiyan, the e-cell, was an initiative guided towards fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship among the younger generation of India. This year, Nirvaan was  bigger than ever before, with the cream of India’s new entrepreneurs coming over to talk to the students. These are people who could have taken cushion under great jobs off campus, but chose to leave it and make a difference. Nirvaan showcased the best of India’s entrepreneurs, to let the participants get a chance to interact closely with them, to understand what goes into making India’s top entrepreneurs. There was total prize money of 1 lakh and Incubation Facilities for the Final three winners for their business idea from Indiaco. For the very first time in the history of Indian B Plan Competition, Nirvaan had representatives from both a Venture Capitalist as well as a team of investors.

The number of students opting to start their own ventures after graduating from IIM Lucknow has been increasing year after year. This trend is expected to continue, as students become more confident about the economic environment in India and the various business opportunities that are coming their way.

Students normally like to work in the industry for a few years before they want to start on their own. Yes, its true that still a large majority of the students prefer the safety of lucrative job to the uncertainties of entrepreneurship.

In order to be an entrepreneur, it is essential to have leadership skills, risk taking ability, etc. but far more important than these is the passion and the will to succeed against all odds. It is this ability that separates the men from the boys.

Today, most promising opportunities are available in the IT/ITES field. A large number of students are looking at the BPO/KPO industry for making an opening. Then there are opportunities in the field of equity research, risk analytics, advertising, media, and supply chain amongst others.

It is important to understand the functioning of the chosen industry before one enters it.  A through business plan is required which lists the entry and exit barriers for the business, details the expected cash flows and identifies potential customers and market segments.
